Professor Emmanuel Adu
Prof Emmanuel O. Adu currently holds the esteemed position of Director-Research and Postgraduate Studies at the KUBU Science and Technology Institute (KSTI) in South Africa. He is a seasoned educationist and administrator. As a towering figure in the educational fraternity, he has a stellar array of qualifications that span 30 years. Apart from being a former Dean of the Faculty of Education at the BA ISAGO University in Botswana and Deputy Dean of Research and Internationalization at the University of Fort Hare (UFH), South Africa, Professor Adu served as Research coordinator for the faculty of education for 5 years at UFH and chairperson of the recruitment and appointment of the academic committee. He is the President of the Global Education Network (GEN), a professional member of the Academic Network on Global Learning and Education (ANGEL), and a former executive committee of the South Africa Education Research Association (SAERA)
His interest in education has seen him develop curricula that attracted international recognition and funding from the governments of Botswana and South Africa. As a registered and accredited trainer, he was a member of the panel assessing the accreditation of courses/modules for universities. This enabled him to attend numerous international conferences, resulting in the acquisition of strong networking skills.
Prof Adu sustains a strong linkage to all masters and doctoral students in the African continent, resulting in high growth of student output and publications. By giving public lectures, and presenting lead papers and keynote addresses, he has marketed different universities (being an employee) into more limelight. With administrative and lecturing experience spanning over 25 years in different African countries, UK and USA, Professor Adu has taught different education-related modules and has served in several management positions since 1999. He has a record of accomplishment of massive publications (over 200) across 18 countries and research supervision of students at all levels. He has participated in the planning and implementation of academic curricula. He belongs to editorial boards of reputable journals, a guest editor, editor-in-chief, and reviewer of numerous journals across the globe. He has written a proposal for UNESCO on ICT in education for equity and equality in Africa and hosted many postdoctoral fellows.
Prof Adu has received many grants for overseas trips. Professor Adu has won the Vice Chancellor’s Senior Researcher Medal Awards for 2015 and 2017 for the Faculty of Education and the University of Fort Hare respectively. He is engaged in community service, having worked in collaboration with NGOs such as Millennium Development Goal (MDG), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and Education for All (EFA) projects. After collaborating with colleagues in transdisciplinary research, he showcased leadership skills that made the UFH appointed him as a mentor for all the emerging researchers in the faculty, between 2014 and 2018; and from 2020 to 2023. This resulted in him supervising and publishing articles with them.
He is an assessor of promotion portfolios to the rank of Associate and Full professors and external examiners to universities in South Africa, Nigeria, Botswana, and Ghana. This affords him the privilege of knowing the research culture of these universities. Recently he has been the leading editor of a published book entitled “Fundamentals of Research in Social Sciences, Humanities and Science” by Van Schaik Publishers in January 2022 and “Managing the Micro-teaching Process in Initial Teacher Training: A Practical Guide for Teaching Practice Preparation” published in February 2023. He is a leading editor of another book “Foundations of Education: Contemporary Social Perspectives” published in March 2024 He is the former Special Interest Group (SIG) Chair on Social Studies at the Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education (SITE) in the USA.
Professor Emmanuel Adu’s endeavours in Continuous Professional Teacher Development (CPTD) have made him a recognized pioneer and presenter of curriculum development workshops and seminars all over the world to the extent that he has become an integral academic asset in his area of expertise. He attended numerous international multidisciplinary conferences all over the world, including conferences/events in Thailand, Botswana, Kenya, the Czech Republic, Finland, Canada, the USA, Ghana, Sierra Leone, the UK, Namibia, and Hong Kong, to mention a few. He has a collaboration and education exchange relationship with Jinhua Education Bureau, Zhejiang Normal National University (ZJNU) in China and Cormack Consultancy Group (CCG) UK. He has held a visiting professorship at Marymount University, Virginia, USA and Liverpool Hope University, UK. He is among the world’s top 100 Education Scientists in South Africa in 2023 (26th position to be precise).
Professor Adu is a universally recognised trailblazer and leader in sustainable development in global education. He is participating in a groundbreaking national study, the first of its kind in South Africa on Classroom Pedagogy, which is expected to have a major effect on education policy in the country for the improvement of teacher education and the effectiveness of the educational system nationally. His impact on his field is evident through winning multiple distinguished awards and being recognized by respected institutions and organizations. He was awarded “The Most Notable and Top Educator of the 21st Century” and a Fellowship award from the International Chartered World Learned Society, an enormous international honour for any education scientist.
As a person, Professor Adu is the type of person who can work productively, effectively, and harmoniously with persons of both sexes, from any race, religion as well as from different age groups and varied cultural and ethnic backgrounds, the type of person that gets things done, an individual who demonstrates initiative, innovation, can influence others positively and builds excellent relationships, the type of person who always has the sincere belief in the value of the type of work that he does, the type of person with a commitment to achieving results, with a credibility that is beyond reproach.
Professor Adu promotes accountability, transparency, and good administration. He is an erudite academician and astute administrator. He is widely traveled, humane but firm, a seasoned teacher, a scholar, an international award winner, a revered counselor, and a researcher. He is a fulfilled family man and is happily married with children.
