WELCOME
The Certificate for Teaching Life-Long Learning (CTLL) programme is implemented using the concept of Learning in a Global Dimension. This is about the creation of learning environments based on active participation and technology enabled learning delivery about global issues and pedagogical approaches to address them. CTLL provides participants with the skills to adopt Education for Sustainable Development in life-long learning.

– The knowledge of using global learning pedagogy with subject disciplines
– Acquisition of skills and competencies using technology enabled learning
– Managing the learning space to achieve optimum results in learning delivery

WHO SHOULD TAKE THE COURSE
This course is designed for those who intend to teach in the further education sector. Those with very limited teaching commitments can use this as a qualification to validate their teaching practice; those who have more substantial teaching commitments will be able to use it to gain further teaching quaifications in the teaching profession. Candidates should be adequately qualified in the subject they intend to teach by virtue of holding an appropriate professional or other qualification (the decision as to what constitutes an appropriate qualification is at the discretion of the institute).

Skills for the Global Teacher (72 Credits) 720 Notional Hours




Dr Johannes Pylman (HoD)
Dr Johannes, N. Pylman’s experience as a lecturer and senior lecturer spans over fifteen years at different South African universities. During this period he served as Deputy Head of School; and B Ed Honours Programme Coordinator until 2019 in the School of General and Continuing Education at the University of Fort Hare. He also coordinated and facilitated the re-curriculation process for the B Ed Honours programme. He has over 35 years of experience as a teacher and principal in different public and private schools. Dr. Pylman published several journal publications; successfully supervised several M Ed. and  PhD candidates, and was also actively engaged in the EU-Research Project on pre-service teacher training on inclusive education. As a part-time research associate, he is currently supervising postgraduate students at different levels and also serves as an external examiner and moderator for undergraduate and postgraduate studies at different universities.


Mr Roy Tokunbo Olowu
Roy is the principal consultant for global learning at Soft Contents an edcuational research consultancy based in London UK. Roy holds an MA in Development Education from the Institute of Education (IoE), University College London (UCL) and is a member of the Academic Network on Global Education and Learning (ANGEL).


Dr Chrispen Mutanho
Dr Chrispen Mutanho initially trained as a primary school teacher in Zimbabwe where he taught for 14 years. He then moved to South Africa in search of greener pastures and got a vacancy to teach Natural Sciences and Life Sciences Khanyisa High. He enrolled as a part-time student and obtained an Honors., Masters and a PhD in science education.  Among the highlights of his career are a Secretary’s Bell (Kambarami Primary school), a +90% pass Matric rate for all the years he taught Grade 12 at Khanyisa High School, six Masters Distinctions and a PhD student co-supervised under the mentorship of Prof Ngcoza. In 2018, he was, alongside his supervisor, nominated in the RU Top 30 Researchers. Dr Mutanho came to Fort Hare n 2021, where he taught Natural Sciences, Mathematics Education, Curriculum Studies and Philosophy of Education. As such he is familiar with the process of curriculum designing, implementation and evaluation as a teacher and a lecturer. Dr Mutanho’s research interests are on how to decolonize science education to make it accessible to all learners. So far, he has 9 publications and is currently working on five more articles. He is an active member of the following professional organizations: SAARMSTE, and the Canadian Association of African Studies.



Dr N. Gqeba
Dr. Nokuzola G. Gqeba is a lecturer for language and curriculum studies in the School of General and Continuing Education at the University of Fort Hare. She is a Deputy Head of School and Intermediate Phase Programme Coordinator for SGCE. A former school principal for the Department of Basic Education in the Western Cape. She has taught for over 20 years at schools in the Western Cape, South Africa, and over 6 years of university teaching at Fort Hare University in South Africa. Dr. Gqeba is also an author with over 16 publications specializing in pre-service Teacher Education, Social Justice issues regarding women, and leadership in Education. She currently supervises the research of students at all levels. She is also in her final year of studying towards Post Graduate qualification in Higher Education Training (PGDiHET).
